Answer:

Let A's age be x and B's age be y.

According to the first condition,

x+y=7(y-x)

Hence, 8x=6y, ie. 4x=3y. ————————(1)

Now, according to the second condition, B's age after 12 years will be y+12 and A's present age will be x as assumed earlier. And the equation becomes,

y+12 : x :: 5 : 3

Hence, 3y+36 = 5x ——————(2)

But 3y=4x, from equation (1)

Hence, equation (2) becomes,

4x+36=5x

Hence, x=36. This is the present age of A.
