Answer:

Total number of white marbles in jar is 22 marbles.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that a jar contains 54 marbles each of which is blue, green or white.

The probability of selecting a blue marble at random is 1/3

The probability of selecting a green marble is 4/9.

we have to find the number of  white marbles in the jar.

Let number of blue, green or white marbles are x, y and z respectively.

P(\text{a blue marble})=\frac{\text{number of blue marbles }}{\text{total number of marbles}}=\frac{x}{54}

\frac{1}{3}=\frac{x}{54}

x=18

P(\text{a green marble})=\frac{\text{number of green marbles }}{\text{total number of marbles}}=\frac{y}{54}

\frac{4}{9}=\frac{y}{54}

y=24

As total number of marbles in jar is 54

Green+Blue+white=54

24+8+z=54

z=22

Hence, total number of white marbles in jar is 22 marbles.
