A Jeep is stuck in the mud. The driver has a winch that can pull on its cable with a force of 35,000 N. The driver loops the cable through a pulley attached to a tree, then attaches the end of the cable to his Jeep.
What is the magnitude of the maximum force that can be exerted on the Jeep by this cable arrangement?

Answer:

The maximum pull exert on the jeep depends on the angle  that the cable makes with the pulley and with the jeep,  The maximum pull exerted can be equal to 35,000 N when the cable makes an angle of 0° with the pulley

Answer:

The maximum force exerted on the jeep is 70000 N.

Explanation:

Given that,

Tension = 35000 N

We need to calculate the maximum force exerted on the jeep

When the driver makes a loop then the tension will be divided in to equal part which will double force on Jeep.

Using formula of force

F_{max}=2T

Put the value into the formula

F_{max}=2\times35000

F_{max}=70000\ N

Hence, The maximum force exerted on the jeep is 70000 N.
