There are few things out there that elicit a response of both curiosity and ridicule as does Indian philosophy. This is partly because of lack of knowledge and our colonial influence which has rendered our understanding of Indian philosophy to veritable prejudice. Hence every time anyone mentions Indian philosophy three bells ring in our head: the bell of rebirth, Karma and spirituality. Little is it known to many that Indian philosophy is much more than this.
Therefore, the following articles will try to intimate the reader with the essential knowledge of Indian philosophy to any proficient reader. Technical words and the historical context will be avoided as much as possible, and only the significant arguments which will lead to some understanding of the truth will be provided. But before we move on to the arguments of different Indian philosophies, we will first look into the traditional division of Indian Philosophy schools. Surprising as it might be to many of us, Indian Philosophy can be divided into six schools, and among these we have the Asthika schools and the Nastika schools. The Astika schools, to be accurate, are not exactly those that believe in the existence of God, but are those that believe in the authority of the Vedas.
