Answer:

The text is taken from the story 'The Blue Bead' written by Norah Burke. The sentence describes one part of the setting of the story. Before describing the sentence in detail, here are the important keywords with meanings.

Keywords :

  • Jungle Track - Roads built in jungle for logging and movement of carts. Generally, it is unmetalled.
  • Scrub - Open grassland ( for grazing purposes). Very few vegetation present.
  • Sun-whitened - the stones are bleached on prolonged exposure to sunlight ( or have turned white ).
  • Flycatcher- A small bird that catches insects in the air.
  • Flirting and trilling - hovering above the stones and chirping ( another word for singing).

Explanation:

  • Two jungle tracks emerged from a scrub land on either side downwards. ( The scrub is present on Highland and the two jungle tracks are present on opposite sides that lead downward )
  • The tracks lead to the stepping stones ( stones are present on the river that can be used to walk across the river, like a crossing path ).
  • The stones are sun-whitened.
  • A flycatcher was flirting and trilling along the stepping stones.
