A junior high school campus is shaped like a rectangle with a width of 1/4 mile and a length of 1/2 mile. A map of the campus has a width of 1/2 foot and a length of 1 foot. What is the ratio of the area in square miles of the campus to the area in square feet of the map?

for area of cam campus

width =1/4 miles. length=1/2miles

area = l×b

= 1/2×1/4

= 1/8 square miles

for area of map

width =1/2foot length=1 foot

area= l×b

=1×1/2

=1/2 square feet

ratio will be area of campus/area of map

= 1/8/1/2

=2/8

=1/4

hence, ratio is 1:4
