  • Let the initial velocity be u .

  • Also, let's consider downwards vector be negative.

Now, we know that gravitational acceleration is directed towards the earth (i.e. downwards).

Hence, sign of acceleration (a) is -g.

Now, for velocity vector, since initial velocity is directed upwards, its sign will be positive.
