GIVEN

A kite is designed on a rectangular grid with squares that measure 1 cm by 1 cm. A piece shaped like a rhombus within the kite will be reserved for the company logo.

TO FIND

the perimeter and area of space reserved for the logo

SOLUTION

The above problem can be simply solved as follows;

Perimeter of the rhombus = 4a

Side of the rhombus can be calcated as follows;

If the right angled triangle is taken.

length of the Altitude = 2 cm

Length of the base = 5 cm

Applying pythagorus theorem;

Hypotenuse² = Altitude² + base²

= 4 + 25

= 29

Hypotenuse = √29

Side of the rhombus =

Perimeter = 4 × √14 = 4√29 cm

Area = half of the product of diagonals

d₁ = 10cm

d₂ = 14 cm

Area = (10 × 14) /2

= 140/2 = 70cm²

Hence, The perimeter is 4√29 cm and area is 70cm²
