Answer:

let the volume of large tank be x and small one be y

3x + 2y=24.........(1)

by second condition

2x + 3y=21........(2)

add the equations

=5x+5y=45

=x+y=9.......divide by 5......(3)

subtract the eq 2 from 1

x-y=3.......(4)

add eq 3 and 4

2x=12

x=6

put x=6 in eq 4

6+ y=9

9-6=y

y=3

therefore volume of each large tank is 6litres

and each small tank is 3 litres

Step-by-step explanation:

let the volume of large tank be, x & the volume of small tank be, y

: . 3x+2y = 24 lit....... equation 1

: . 2x+ 3y= 21 lit....... equation 2

now, multiply the equation 1 from 2 and equation 2 from 3.

: . 2( 3x+ 2y) = 2[ 24]

6x + 4y = 48 ......... equation 3

: . 3( 2x+ 3y) = 3( 21)

6x+9y = 63...... equation 4

now, subtract equation 3 from 4

: . 5y = 15

: . y = 3 liters.

by putting the value of y in equation 1 we get-

3x +2y =24

3x + 2(3) = 24

3x + 6 = 24

x = 6 liters.

therefore, the volume of the large tank is 6 liters and volume of small tank is 3 liters.
