a labourer is engaged for 20 days on that condition he will receive 120 rupees for each day he works and will be fined 10 for each day he absent. if he receives 1880 in all, for how many days did he remain absent.

The number of days he is absent = 20 - x


Form equation and solve for x :

120x -10 (20 - x) = 1880

120x - 200 + 10x = 1880

130x = 2080

x = 16


Find the number of days he remain absent:

Absent = 20 - x = 20 - 16 = 4 days


Answer: He was absent for 4 days
