The labourer is engaged for 20 days. So,

let's take the number of days he is present to be x and the number of days he is absent as y.

An equation is formed,

x + y = 20 that can be written in the

terms of x as y = 20 - x ......(1)

Now we know that he is given 60 rupees for every day he is present and rupees 5 is deducted for every day he is absent.It is said that he earns rupees 745 by the end of 20 days. So, an equation is formed :

60x - 5y = 745 .....(2)

Using (1) in (2), we get ,

60x - 5 (20 - x ) = 745

60x - 100 + 5x = 745

65x = 845

Hence, x = 13.

Thus, the number of days he is present is 13 days.

The number of days he is absent can be found through equation (1) and is 20 - 13 = 7. So, the number of days he is absent is 7 days.
