AB (Distance of the foot of the ladder from the base of the wall) or Base of triangle BAC,

So using Pythagoras Theorem

BC2 = AC2 + AB2

AB2 = BC2 - AC2

AB2 = 102 - 82 = 100 - 64

AB = 36

AB = √36 = 6

Hence the distance of the foot of the ladder from base of the wall is 6 m.
