A ladder 20 meters long reaches the distance of 20 meters from the top of a building. At the foot of the ladder , the measurement of the angle of elevation at the top of the building is 60°.Find the height of the building.

ANSWER

PB = ladder = BC = 20 given.

Also CPA = 60°

ZBCP= BPC = 30°

as ABC is isosceles.

ZACP = 30°

ZBPA = 60° -30°= 30°

20-2 . AB = 30 sin 30° = 20.

= 10

Hence the height of flag staff = AB + BC = 10 + 20 = 30 ft.
