Correct question:-

A 15m long ladder reached a window 12m high from the ground on placing it against a wall at a distance a. Find the distance of the foot of the ladder from the wall

_____________________________________

In given figure :-

  • A 15m long ladder reached a window 12m high from the ground on placing it against a wall at a distance a.

To find:-

  • The distance of the foot of the ladder from the wall.

\huge\sf{Solution:}

AC = 15 metres long ladder

AB = 12 metres high

CB = 'a' metre.

Now,

∆ ABC is a right angled triangle.

Angle ABC = 90°.

By pythagoras Theorem :-

(AC)^2 = (BC)^2 + (AB)^2

(15)^2 = (a)^2 + (12)^2

225 = (a)^2 + 144

225 - 144 = (a)^2

81 = (a)^2

9 = a

Therefore  ,

The distance of the foot of the lader from the wall is 9 m.
