A ladder is placed in such a way that its foot is at a distance of 7m from a wall

and its top reaches a window 24m above the ground. Determine the length of the

ladder.

Distance of bottom end of ladder from bottom point of wall (B) = 7 m

Distance of top end of ladder from bottom point of wall (H) = 24 m

       Let

       Length of ladder = L = Unknown

Here we see that L, B and H form a right angle triangle. Where L will be hypotenuse of triangle.

From formula of Pythagoras

       L² = B² + H²

       L² = 7² + 24²

       L² = 49 + 576

       L² = 625

So

       L =25 = This is length of ladder.
