A ladder is touching a wall and the base of the ladder is 15 m away from the wall. when the ladder is pulled away from the wall by 2 m, it becomes parallel to the ground. find the distance of the initial point of contact of the ladder and the wall from the ground.

a. 10m

b. 8m

The length of the ladder = 15 + 2

                                       = 17 m

If distance of the initial point of contact of the ladder and the wall from the ground = h

Using pythagoras theorem:

h² = 17² - 15²

    = 64

h = 8

Answer:8m.

Step-by-step explanation:

by pulling away by 2m ladder become parralel to ground.

so the length of the ladder = 15 + 2

                                        = 17 m

let distance of the initial point of contact of the ladder and the wall from the ground is h

then by using pythagoras theorem:

h² = 17² - 15²

= 64

= 8

so distance of the initial point of contact of the ladder and the wall from the ground is 8m.
