Given : A ladder leans against a brick wall.

The foot of the ladder is 5 feet from the wall.

The ladder and the ground make an angle of 65º.

To Find : What is the length of the ladder

Round to the nearest tenths

Solution:

Cos angle =  Distance of foot of ladder  from wall / length of ladder

Distance of foot of ladder  from wall = 5 feet

angle =  65°

=> Cos 65°  =   5/length of ladder

=> 0.4226 = 5/ length of ladder

=> length of ladder = 11.83 c

= 11.8 feet

length of the ladder = 11.8 feet
