A ladder of height 10 metre rests on a wall and the foot of the ladder is 6 metre away from the wall and the top of ladder reaches the top of the wall. What is the height of the wall?

Answer:

Let WA=10m be the length of the ladder and WL=xcm be the height of the wall . As wall WL=xm is vertically up so by Pythagoras theorem.

In angle angled triangle WLA

WL^2 + AL^2=WA^2

x^2 +6^2=10^2

x^2 = 10^2-6^2 = 100-36 =64 x^2 = 8

Hence , the height of the point on the wall where the top of the ladder reaches is 8m
