Length of the ladder = AC = 5m

Height of the wall = BC = 4cm

Distance between foot of the ladder

to foot of the wall = AB

In ∆ABC , <B = 90°

By Phythogarian theorem ,

AC² = AB² + BC²

=> AC² - BC² = AB²

=> AB² = AC² - BC²

= 5² - 4²

= 25 - 16

AB² = 9

AB = √9

=> AB = 3 m
