A ladder of length 6m makes an angle 45o with the floor while leaning against one wall of a room. If the foot of the ladder is kept fixed on the floor and it is made to lean against the opposite wall of the room, it makes an angle of 60o with the floor. Find the distance between these two walls of the room.

let two wall AB& CD distance in between them is x+y
so by using trigonometric cosine ratios x=3✓2
& y = 3
so distance in between them = 3✓2+3= 7.242m

Answer:

Draw a diagram in which take D and A at the top of two triangles and take point C, O and B downwards.

Cos60=CO/DO

1/2 = CO/6

2CO=6

CO=3m

Cos45=OB/OA

1/√2= OB/6

√2OB = 6

OB=6√2/2 (rationalizing)

OB=3√2m

BC=CO+OB

= 3+3√2

=3+3*1.414

= 3+4.242

=7.242m
