A ladder reaches a window 12 m above the ground on one side of the street. Keeping its foot at the same point, the ladder is turned to the other side of the street to reach a window 9m high. If the length of the ladder is 15m, then the width of the street is

Answer:

height of window 1st from ground (AB)=12m

Height of ladder (AC)=15m

Let the distance between ladder and window bottom =BC

Now form the triangle ABC

Apply Pythagoras

AC^2=BC^2+AB^2

BC^2=AC^2-AB^2

BC^2=15^2-12^2

BC^2=225-144

BC^2=81

BC=√81

BC=9m

Now the height of second window (DE)=9m

Length of ladder (EC)=15m

Now apply Pythagoras

DC^2=EC^2-ED^2

DC^2=15^2-9^2

DC^2=225-81

DC^2=144

DC=√144

DC=12m

Length of street=DC+CV=12+9=21m answer
