Given : A ladder rests against a house on one side of street.

The angle of elevation of the top of the ladder is 60°

.the ladder is turned over to rest against a house on the other side of the street and the elevation now becomes 42°50'

Ladder is 40 m long

To Find : breadth of the street.

Solution:

Cos 60°  = Horizontal Distance from House / Ladder length

=> 1/2  = Horizontal Distance from House / 40

=> Horizontal Distance from House = 20 m

Cos 42°50'  = Horizontal Distance from other House / Ladder length

=> 0.733 = Horizontal Distance from other House/40

=> Horizontal Distance from other House = 29.33 m

breadth of the street. 20 + 29.33 m

= 49.33 m

breadth of the street. = 49.33 m
