A ladder rests against a vertical wall at a height of 12m from the ground with its foot at a distance of 9m from the wall on the ground. If the foot of the ladder is shifted 3m away from the wall, how much lower will the ladder slide down

Answer:

length of the ladder = √(144+81)

= 15

initially height of the wall = 12

now

height of the wall =√ {15^2 - (9 + 3)^2}

= √(225 - 144)

= 9

hence the ladder will slide down 3cm (i.e (12 - 9) cm= 3cm) lower
