GIVEN:

  • Length of ladder (BC) = 20 cm
  • Angle of elevation of the ladder = 60°

TO FIND:

  • What is the length of AC ?

SOLUTION:

Let the length AC be 'x' cm

We know that, the value of cos60° is 1/2

\bf{\therefore cos 60\degree = \dfrac{Base}{Hypotenuse}}

\sf{\dfrac{1}{2} = \dfrac{x}{20}}

20 \times 1 = x \times 2

20 = 2x

\sf{\cancel\dfrac{20}{2}} = x

10 = x

Hence, the distance of the ladder from the wall is 10 cm
