Let the no. of 25p coins be x and that of 50p be y
x+y=40 ....(i) =>x=40-y
25x+50y=1250
(25x+50y=1250)/25
x+2y=50 ....(ii)
Putting value of x,
40-y+2y=50
y=50-40=10
.•. x=40-10=30
Answer:
x=30
y=10

Hi ,
Let number of 25p coins = x ,
number of 50p coins = ( 40 - x ) ,
according to the problem given ,
25x + 50( 40 - x ) = 1250
divide each term with 25 , we get
x + 2( 40 - x ) = 50
x + 80 - 2x = 50
- x = 50 - 80
-x = -30
x = 30
Therefore ,
number of 25p coins = x = 30
number of 50p coins = 40 - x
= 40 - 30
= 10
I hope this helps you.
