Given : A lady has three dresses of different colours, three purses of different colours and two different pairs of shoes . She refuses to take her white purse with her black dress

To find : How many dress-purse-shoe combinations could she have

Solution:

Different Color of dress  = 3

Different color pf purses = 3

Different Color of Shoes  = 2

Total possible combination = 3 * 3 * 2

= 18

Number of possible Combination when She take  white purse  with her black dress.  = 1  * 1  * 2    = 2

Hence dress-purse-shoe possible combinations = 18 - 2  = 16

in 16 ways she can choose dress-purse-shoe combinations  such that She never  take her white purse with her black dress
