Given:

Total amount = Rs 1,00,000

Total no. of currency notes = 175

Let the number of notes of Rs 500 be 'x'

So, the number of notes of Rs 1000 is '175 - x'

From the data above:

500x + 1000(175 - x) = 100000

100[5x + 10(175 - x)] = 100[1000]

5x + 1750 - 10x = 1000

1750 - 5x = 1000

1750 - 1000 = 5x

750 = 5x x = 750/5

x = 150

Using value of x,

=> 170 - x

=> 175 - 150 = 25

So,

The number of notes of Rs 500 = 150

The number of notes of Rs 500 = 150 And, the number of notes of Rs 1000 = 25

Verification:

500x + 1000(175 - x) = 100000

500(150) + 1000(175 - 150) = 100000

75000 + 1000(25) = 100000

100000 = 100000
