Current is due to the flow of electrons in a single direction but in a metal the electrons move randomly and cut out the effect of each other ,thus the net effect is 0 and metal as a whole is neutral.

The electrons are present in metal are in constant motion.so current from one direction cancel out effect from opposite direction.
