A large number of free electrons are present in metals, yet no current flows in absence of electric potential across it. Explain the statement with reason.

the electrons present in the metals are in constant motion, so the current from one direction cancels out its effect from another direction.

These electronsare in constant random motion that means they are moving here and there.
