A large piece of the cork floats on water with 4/5th of its volume above the water surface. Calculate the density of the cork, if the density of water is 1000 kg/m3

Volume of cork immense =

 = V -  \frac{4}{5} \\  V =  \frac{1}{5} V

By principle of flotation,

Weight of cork = Weight of water displaced

 = V \times d \times g =  \frac{1}{5}  \times V \times 1 \times g \\  = d =  \frac{1}{5}  = 0.02 \: gcm ^{3}

By taking the density of water,

 =  \frac{0.02}{1000}  = 0.00002 \: gcm^{3}

Density of cork = 0.00002 g/cm³.
