Chemical changes are irreversible, and the wood has now transformed to ash.

  • The term "irreversible change" refers to a change that cannot be undone or reversed. A piece of paper is reduced to ash when burned. It cannot become paper again. You cannot become shorter. These modifications are permanent. They are completely irreversible.
  • A chemical shift has occurred since the wood has converted into a substance that can't be altered back to it's original form. Chemical changes are irreversible, and the wood has now transformed to ash. Although the colours of the wood and pile of ashes are similar, the differences in size, smell, hardness, and combustibility show that a chemical transformation has produced a substance with a different identity. Furthermore, the ashes cannot be transformed back into a log.

Hence, Chemical changes are irreversible, and the wood has now transformed to ash.
