Let d be the distance between the earth's surface and moon's surface.

Then the total distance traveled by the laser beam from earth's surface to moon's surface and then after reflection to back to earth = 2d

Time taken by the laser beam to return after reflection at moon's surface=2.56s

As laser beam is an electromagnetic wave,it travels with the speed of light = 3×10 to the power 8 m/s

So, total distance traveled by the laser beam = speed of the laser beam × total time taken by the laser beam
             =>2d = 3×10 to the power 8 m/s × 2.56 s              =>2d = 7.68 × 108 m
             =>d = (7.68 × 108) /2
              =>d = 3.84 × 108 m.

Hence, the radius of the lunar orbit around earth is 3.84 × 10 to the power 8 m

Time taken by the laser beam to return to Earth after reflection from the Moon = 2.56 s

Speed of light = 3 × 108 m/s

Time taken by the laser beam to reach Moon

=1/2 × 2.56 = 1.28 s

Radius of the lunar orbit

= Distance between the Earth and the Moon

= 1.28 × 3 × 108 = 3.84 × 108 m

= 3.84 × 105 km

I hope, this will help you
