A leaf is boiled in water and spirit and iodine solution is dropper over it. Why does it turn blue – black ?

it is use to show present of starch in leaf.
No color change (Iodine Solution remains brown)

Iodine/Potassium Iodide solution changed from brown to blue- black (Starch is present)

This concludes that the leaf contains STARCH.
