A lending library has a fixed charge for one week and charges fine for keeping the book for each day there after. Manan had taken a book and returned the book late by one day due to rain on that day and paid Rs. 25 for it. Diptanshu had taken a book, but paid Rs.85 for it as he had forgotten to return it and after getting a reminder from concerned persons returned it after 5 days. Find the fixed charge and the total amount of fine money paid by them

Answer:

Fixed charge = ₹ 10

Per day late charge = ₹ 15

Step-by-step explanation:

Let fixed charge be f and per day late charge be d

Manan ⇒ 25 = f + 1 * d      [Total charge = Fixed + No. of days * Per day charge]

           ⇒ 25 = f + d     .......(i).......

Diptanshu ⇒ 85 = f + 5 * d

                 ⇒ 85 = f + 5d     ......(ii).......

Now, let's subtract eqn.(i) from eqn.(ii),

⇒ 85 - 25 = f + 5d - (f + d)

⇒ 60 = f + 5d - f - d

⇒ 60 = 4d

⇒ d = 60 / 4 = ₹ 15

Putting the value of d in eqn.(i), we get,

⇒ 25 = f + 15

⇒ f = 25 - 15

⇒ f = ₹ 10
