l = 2b - 6

perimeter = 2(l + b) = 72

2(2b - 6 + b) = 72

3b - 6 = 36

3b = 42

b = 14

l = 22

Given:

  • Length of a rectangle is 6 m less than twice of its breadth.
  • Perimeter of rectangle is 72 m

To find:

  • Length and breadth of rectangle?

Solution:

⠀⠀⠀⌬ Let breadth of rectangle be x m

⠀⠀⠀⌬ Then, length of rectangle is (2x - 6) m.

According to the given Question:

★ Perimeter of rectangle = 2(l + b)

Putting values,

⇏ 2((2x - 6) + x) = 72

⇏ 2(3x - 6) = 72

⇏ 3x - 6 = 72/2

⇏ 3x - 6 = 36

⇏ 3x = 36 + 6

⇏ 3x = 42

⇏ x = 42/3

⇏ x = 14 m

Therefore,

  • Breadth of rectangle, x = 14 cm
  • Length of rectangle, (2x - 6) = 2 × 14 - 6 = 28 - 6 = 22 m

∴ Hence, Length and Breadth of rectangle is 14 m and 22 m respectively.
