In the ideal condition the new focal length of the combination will be same as before.

• When, the lens is divided into 4 equal parts then the focal lengths of those individual 4 parts will be different than the original lens.

• But,when those 4 parts are reconnected with each other, the previous lens is recreated. So,the focal length of the new combination will be also same as before.

• But all the things are assumed in an ideal condition, which means -

1) The lens is symmetrical.

2) The lens is reconnected in a perfect fit.

3) If glue is used to fix the lens, then the effect of the glue layer is omitted.

• In the real condition, the ideal scenario doesn't exist, so we cannot expect the exact same focal length, minor difference will be there in most of the cases. But overall the value of the focal length stays more or less the same.
