Dear Madam Vice-Rector,

We hope you and your family are safe and well.

The current circumstances we live in are unknown to us all and they bring a lot of uncertainties and new challenges with them. For this reason, we would like to express our gratitude to you on behalf of all students for all that you and your team have done so far for all students on and off-campus as well as for the kind and supportive messages you have sent to us all. Even though some of us have returned home, we see that life on campus has continued as much as possible given the circumstances. We think that it has created an even bigger feeling of community-building. That one feeling that the Natolin campus is known for.

Aside from our life on campus, we have witnessed that also the academic program has continued to the best extent possible – particularly in the efforts to implement the academic elements of the study trips on such short notice. We realise how much extra work it must have been to even set up the programmes of the study trips, let alone change them to a completely online format. To all academic and organisational staff, we have sent a postcard that you can find attached to this letter. However, we know that there is even more behind the study trips and a big part of that is also your coordination and support. For that reason, we would like to thank you and your whole team who has been involved in the preparation and continuation of the programmes of the study trips as well.

Finally, we hope that this crisis will be somehow resolved in the near future and that those who have returned home will be able to return to Natolin soon to finish the year all together. And that if anything, we will all be able to learn something from this crisis. Thanks again for everything, and if there is anything that we can do to help, please let us know.

With kind regards and best wishes,

Answer:

Dear Community Members,

As the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 continues to unfold in St. John’s, we want you to know that The Gathering Place is taking all precautionary measures possible. We are following a coordinated community response from the Department of Health, Eastern Health and continuing to collaborate with our community partners to ensure appropriate health and safety measures for everyone who interacts with The Gathering Place.

The well-being of the Guests, as well as volunteers, partners and employees who continue to provide exceptional support to a marginalized population, is our priority.

Due to the rapidly changing nature of COVID-19, and the vulnerable population that need our services, we will not be able to accept in-kind donations in person or welcome visitors to our centre until further notice.

More than ever, we are grateful for your monetary donations as we have to purchase much needed supplies and food during this difficult time

We understand that as a community it is through our collective action and commitment to the safety and well-being of everyone that we will reduce the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to provide timely updates through our social media channels.

Thank you for your understanding, patience and continued support as we take the necessary measures to respond to this complex situation.

Sincerely,

Joanne Thompson

Executive Director, The Gathering Place
