Subject: Suggesting ways to conserve rain water
Dear Sir:
I am writing this letter to suggest a few suggestions to conserve rain water in our city. The amount of pure drinkable water has been decreasing every year due to factors such as global warming, population explosion, industrialization, and underground water table falling alarmingly.
In such a scenario, we have a golden hope of tackling this water shortage crisis. God has blessed our country with many unique natural and climatic resources. Monsoon is one of them. During monsoons abundant water falls from the sky. However, owing to our ignorance, this water gets wasted. I want to suggest that the Government should encourage people to do rain harvesting by providing them know-how and subsidized rain water harvesting facilities.
If we succeed in this mission, all the water related issues will be solved. I hope you will ponder over my suggestions. Looking forward to prompt response.
Yours faithfully,

Respected Sir,
Sub: Measures to conserve rainwater
As mentioned in the above subject, I see that during the rainy season, a lot of rain water is left to flow off and thus finally reaches the earth without us humans utilizing it to the fullest of its potential. Though rainwater harvesting has been made compulsory for large buildings, the implementation is still scarce and we need to do much more in order to utilize rain water and not let it flow away. Through the means of this letter, I want to suggest to you a few measures we can adopt to conserve rain water, such as:
1) Making rainwater harvesting compulsory for all buildings above a certain dimension, with regular checks to ensure its implementation
2) Incentives on water bills for those who actually use harvested rainwater
3) Implementing rainwater collection on footpaths and sidewalks
4) Ensuring all industrial establishments harvest rainwater and use it for their cleaning needs
5) Government buildings must compulsorily collect rainwater and store it in tanks for the use of gardening, cleaning and other maintenance activities
6) Parks can use harvested rainwater for watering of the plants and washing the pathways
7) Spreading awareness on rainwater harvesting among the public and encouraging them to adopt it
8) Teach children in schools the importance of conserving rain water
Water is being consumed carelessly by millions of people around the world everyday, without realizing its long-term consequences. It is only when a problem arises that we wake up to its dangers. Thus, I feel that we must implement measures such as the ones given above at the earliest so that we do not face any problems in the future.
I thank you for taking time off your busy schedule to read this letter, and I hope that you will make some progress in this regard.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
Rahul
