Subject: Suggestions to improve Spoken English in School
Madam:
With reference to the suggestions asked by the authorities to improve Spoken English in the school, I am writing to your esteemed self to suggest a few ways to improve spoken English in our school. I have been studying in this school for 3 years. I have felt that the Spoken English needs to be improved. Usually in the class students communicate with each other in vernacular. A majority of teachers also don’t speak English much. Fluency in English is a matter of natural exposure to the language, and the regular, sincere practice. The easiest way to learn English is to spend maximum of one’s time in an environment where quality English is spoken. Fluency in correct English does not happen in a day or month. One needs a long training. I suggest the following strategies for students’ improvement:
1. Teachers and students must communicate in English only. Strict action should be taken against those who violate it.
2. A language Lab should be set up in the school.
3. In the Lab students should be made to listen to the soundtracks of audio-books, such as, Harry Potter, The Story of My Life, or any other books of your choice. Listen to the tracks at least one hour every day.
4. Students should be given extra reading, writing, listening, and speaking tasks.
5. Dictionary use should be taught and students should be encouraged to carry their personal dictionaries.
I am hopeful introduction of the above mentioned ways will definitely give an impetus to the English Improvement Drive.
Yours faithfully,
