Dear John,
It's with huge regret that I write this letter to present my apologies for missing your birthday party. i know that this was your thirteenth birthdayand i know how awaiting you were for me please forgive me because i was in a critical situation, where i was so very depressed.
I'm extremely sorry for having missed your birthday celebration. I know that it was a special night for you and I can't say how much I'm ashamed to miss this special night and occasion to be around you. I couldn't come to your party because my little sister was extremely sick and I had to drive her to the hospital where I spent 2 days in a row. I couldn't leave her alone and on top of that I've forgotten my mobile phone at home. It wasn't a pleasant moment and hopefully she's feeling much better now.
I would like to catch up with you next week to say sorry for missing your party and to give you your gift. I've bought a special gift for you which I couldn't give you during that night.
