Answer :

  • 100cm is the length of the tape used
  • Overlapping is 105cm

Given :

  • A lid of rectangular box of sides 40cm by 10cm is sealed all around with tape
  • Overlapping of 5cm off the tape

To find :

  • Length of the tape used

Solution :

Given ,

  • Length is 40cm
  • Breadth is 10cm

Length of tape required = Perimeter of rectangle

As we know that ,

  • Perimeter of rectangle = 2(l + b)

where , l is length 40cm and b is breadth 10cm

》 Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length + breadth)

》 2(40 + 10)

》 2(50)

》 100cm

Hence , Length of the tape used is 100cm

Given that,

  • Overlapping 5cm off the tape then ,

100 + 5

》 105cm

Hence Overlapping is 105cm
