The velocity of a body is rate of change of  its displacement with the time. let v be the velocity and x be the  its displacement. Then we have

\dfrac{dx}{dt}=v\\\int dx= \int vdt\\x=\int vdt

The term \int vdt is area under the v-t curve

So Displacement is are under the v-t curve.

From the given figure

Area under the v-t curve is

=\dfrac{3.6\times2}{2}+3.6\times 8+\dfrac{3.6\times2}{2}\\\\=36\ \rm m

Hence the height of which the lift takes the passengers is 36 m
