Answer:

A lift is on the ground floor and it goes 5 floors down and then moves up to 10 floors from there. So, it will be  in the 5th floor .

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Initially the lift will is on the ground floor which is representing by ‘0’
  • Then the lift goes to 5 floors down, that is , 0 to -5 ⇒ -5
  • Then it moves up to 10 floors from there, i.e. from -5 to 10 floors up.
  • Hence the lift will be = 0 – 5 + 10 = -5 + 10  = 5th floor (above the ground floor)
  • This can be explained using a Number line. See the attachment.

From '0' the lift 1st goes 5 points in the negative direction and reaches

point -5. From -5 , it goes 10 points in the positive direction and

       reaches to the point +5.
