\sqrt{\frac{3}{2} }

Explanation:

Given that,

The Incident angle of light ray(i) = 45°

Now, by employing Snell's law

Refractive Index(μ) = sin i /sin r

because it at grazing angle,

r = 90 − c

μ = sin i/cos c

As we know, critical angle i.e.

sin c = 1/μ

and Cos c = \sqrt{1 - sin^2c}

By putting the values,                         (i = 45°)

1/\sqrt{2} = μ\sqrt{1 - 1/u^2}

1/2 = μ^2\sqrt{1 - 1/u^2}

μ^2 = 3/2

∵ μ = \sqrt{\frac{3}{2} }
