A light spring balance S is attached to two bodies
of masses M=6 kg and m= 4kg. Forces F= 20 N
and f = 10N are applied to the masses as shown.
The spring balance, in steady state, reads
(1) 10 N
(2) 20N
(3) 6N
(4) 14 N

Answer:

  • convert the spring system into massless rope system
  • now the tension in the rope will be the reading of spring balance
  • acceleration of both blocks will be as they are moving together
