a
Lil' Peggy Sue,
oh Lil' Peggy Sue,
She always wanted something new.
She fell on her knees, crying, "boo hoo!"
Demanding new toys since she was just two.
She screamed at her parents for a kazoo,
a ball, a bike, a doll dressed in blue,
a train, a hat, a pet kangaroo.
Finally her parents said, "It's through!
No more toys for you, Peggy Sue."
She wailed and screamed for a week or two,
saying, "Oh please, I need just a few,
I'll die without a new kangaroo."
Her parents didn't know what to do,
so they left lil' Sue and moved to Timbuktu.
A hyperbole (hy-PER-buh-lee) is an exaggeration so dramatic that it is obviously not true. It is used as a figure of
speech in writing to make a point or create a vivid image. Example: I'm so tired I could sleep for a year!
Underline and copy an example of hyperbole in the poem:
a.
b. What is the author or speaker literally saying?
c. What does the author or speaker actually mean?

Answer:
A. "I'll die without a Kanagroo." B. The author is literally saying that Sue is a very demanding child. She wants a lot of things. C. The author probably wants to show that people shouldn't be so demanding and wanting. So to almost teach a lesson.
Step-by-step explanation:
A - Well Sue isn't actually going to die If she doesn't get a Kanagroo. It's her exaggerating. She wants something really really bad.
B - Throughout that, and even in the beginning, It states that she really wants a lot of things. She's spoiled and wants a lot of toys.
C - This was about a little girl and how much she wants toys and how If she doesn't get what she wants she will throw a fit. So you can automatically tell that the author might want you to learn a lesson about how people shouldn't be so demanding.
