Given :- A line is drawn through the vertex A parallel to the base of the triangle ABC.

To Find :-

  • PQ = ?
  • AM = ?
  • BC = ?
  • Area ∆ABC = ?

Answer :-

from image we can see that,

  • PQ = AM = 6 cm = Perpendicular height .
  • BC = 8 cm = Base .

so,

→ ∆ABC area = (1/2) * Base * Perpendicular height = (1/2) * 8 * 6 = 4 * 6 = 24 cm². (Ans.)

Also, when a line is drawn parallel to one side in a triangle, two similar triangles are formed .And, ∆'s between same parallel lines and same base have equal area .
