Given,

An equation of line 2x+y=7.

To find,

The equation of the line that passes through the origin and is parallel to the line 2x+y=7.

Solution,

  • We will first calculate the slope of line 2x+y=7 because the equation of the line that we have to find is parallel to line 2x+y=7, hence both the line would have the same slope.

        Slope of line 2x+y=7 is -2.

         y = -2x+7

  • The equation of the straight line is of the form of y=mx+c, where m is the slope of the line and c is constant.

Therefore the slope of the equation of the line that we have to find is       -2.

  • The given equation of the line passes through the origin (0,0).
  • Hence, the equation of the line that we have to find can be calculated by-

 (y - 0/ x - 0) = -2

⇒  y = -2x.

⇒  2x+y = 0.

Therefore, A-line is parallel to the line 2x+y=7 and passes through the origin is 2x+y = 0.
