Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

                       3x                                           2x                       A_________________________P_____________B

 <……………………………………8 cm…………..............................>

A line segment AB = 8cm is divided in the ratio 3:2 by a ray at point P lies on AB

So AP = 3x, PB = 2x

3x + 2x = 8cm.                          x = 8/5

The distance of point P from A = 3x = 3*8/5

                                                       = 24/5  or  4.8cm            Ans

The distance of point P from A is 4.8 cm

it is given that,

a line segment AB=8 cm is divided in the ratio 3:2 by a ray at point P lies on AB.

A.................................P...........................B

let proportionality constant is x.

then, AP = 3x and PB = 2x

as AP + PB = AB = 8cm

⇒3x + 2x = 8

⇒x = 8/5 = 1.6

now, the distance of point P from A = AP = 3x = 1.6 × 3 = 4.8 cm
