Slope of the line joining 2 points is

(x2 −x1 )/(y2 −y1 ) .

where (x1 ,y1 ) and (x2 ,y2) are two points.

So, slope of line joining (−4,1) and (1,y) is 1−(−4)/y−1

So, slope = 5/y−1

Given that slope is 5/1.

So 5/1 = 5/y−1

⇒y−1=1

⇒y=2
